On October 25, 2017, Thailand began an elaborate 5-day funeral for King Bhumibol Adulyadej with his son, the new monarch, performing Buddhist merit-making rites in preparation for moving Bhumibol’s remains to a spectacular golden crematorium.

  • Hundreds of thousands of Thais have lined the streets of Bangkok to pay their last respects to the late king.
  • His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has presided over a merit-making ceremony at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to start the royal cremation ceremonies for the late King.
