RBI will soon release new INR 50 notes

On August 18, 2017, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it would soon release INR 50 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.

  • The RBI clarified that all the INR 50 banknotes issued under earlier series would remain legal tender.

Specifications of new INR 50 notes →

  • The dimension of the new INR 50 notes will be 66 mm x 135 mm.
  • The base colour of the new note is fluorescent blue.
  • Having the signature of Governor Urjit R. Patel, the note has geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.
  • Depicting the country’s cultural heritage, it has a motif of Hampi with Chariot on the reverse.
  • Reverse → (a) Denominational numeral 50 in Devanagari (b) Swachh Bharat logo with slogan (c) Year of printing of the notes on the left (d) Language panel (e) Motif of Hampi with Chariot
