Annually, Independence Day of Indonesia is observed on August 17. This day is filled with festivities and celebrations. This year, Indonesia celebrated its 72nd Independence Day.

A brief history about this day →

  • For over 300 years, Indonesia had been a Dutch colony.
  • The struggle for independence was started by a group of revolutionaries.
  • Indonesians started diplomatic efforts as well as armed struggle. And finally, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands formally granted their independence.
  • It is the fact that Indonesia was declared Independent from the Netherlands on August 17, 1945, but, it was not until 2005, that the Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept the date of August 17, 1945, as the official date for the independence of Indonesia.
